Casa del Aljarife

Location

The Pension Casa del Aljarife is a typical andalusian noble mansion of the XVII. century. The house is located in a very peaceful part in the pedestrian area of the Albaicín. The Albaicín is the oldest and most charming district of Granada.

The Albaicín is a hill, where you hardly can drive. The mostly narrow streets and ways are made of cobble stones with lots of steps. From the Plaza Nueva it may be a 4 or 5 minutes walk to the Casa del Aljarife and you really have to walk. You can´t drive directly to the Casa. So you should wear adequate shoes. Leave your car on one of the recommended Parkings and walk or take a Taxi to Plaza Nueva. Please don´t try to get to the Casa del Aljarife or to Plaza Nueva with your car. Only residents of the Albaicín and taxis are allowed and able to do that. You will be met at Plaza Nueva or the Parking San Agustin. The owner will help with the luggage.

The location of the Casa del Aljarife is unique. Although it is in the heart of the centre of town it is very peaceful. Casa del Aljarife is in walking distance to the Alhambra, the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, the centre of town, the Plaza Nueva, and other monuments worth a visit.

Please note that we only have non smoking rooms and we do not allow pets. Please be so kind and have in mind these things making your reservation. And therefore we can offer a pleasant stay and peaceful nights.

We Offer

The andalusian noble house was built in the XVII century. It was restored and modernized in 1997. Now it offers such modern comforts as air conditioning, central heating, and modern bathrooms with shower and bidet. From the second floor you look into the large courtyard, certainly one of the most lovely here.

Beautiful and large non smoking rooms with private bathrooms and shower. All rooms with air conditioning and two with panoramic views of the Alhambra. Sitting and smoking areas in the courtyard with Bar. Weather permitting we offer breakfast in the courtyard.

Travel by plane

2 alternatives

1. Flying to Granada

   From the airport of Granada you may take the shuttle bus to the centre of Granada (Gran Vía, bus stop at the Cathedral, see map), it costs 3,00 Euros per person. From the Gran Vía go to Plaza Nueva. From Plaza Nueva get up the Street Calle Carcel Alta, it is right hand side of the Restaurant Torres Bermejas. Turn left around the Church San Gregorio and walk up the Cuesta de San Gregorio. At the end of the Cuesta San Gregorio you eventually get to the Placeta de la Cruz Verde.

   The Taxi from the airport of Granada to Plaza Nueva costs 28 €.
   From Plaza Nueva get up the Street Calle Carcel Alta, it is right hand side of the Restaurant Torres Bermejas. Turn left around the Church San Gregorio and walk up the Cuesta de San Gregorio. At the end of the Cuesta San Gregorio you eventually get to the Placeta de la Cruz Verde.

2. Flying to Malaga

   For your trip within Andalusia I seriously recommend to avoid a car. The traffic in the andalusian cities is a catastrophe with a system of one way streets. The signs are bad and dificult to find - if there are any. But the bus system between the andalusian cities is excellent.
   There are lots of daily busses from e.g. Malaga to Granada (and back). They start at 7 o´clock in the morning until 9 o´clock at night every full hour every day.
   From the airport of Malaga you may take a shuttle bus (1 Euro) from the airport to the central bus station of Malaga or a taxi, which may cost 10 Euros.
   From the central bus station in Malaga the bus company Alsina Graells runs the busses to Granada. A one way ticket may cost 8,20 Euros per person. From the central bus station in Granada the bus lines No 3 and 33 go to the Gran Vía, there is a bus stop directly at the Cathedral (see map), a four minutes walk from Casa del Aljarife. You can also get a taxi to Plaza Nueva, may cost 7 Euros.

   From Plaza Nueva get up the Street Calle Carcel Alta, it is right hand side of the Restaurant Torres Bermejas. Turn left around the Church San Gregorio and walk up the Cuesta de San Gregorio. At the end of the Cuesta San Gregorio you eventually get to the Placeta de la Cruz Verde.

Travel by car

Car Parkings: all Parkings in Granada are subterranean

Parking Trauma:

Leave the highway to Granada at the exit (salida) no. 241 A to Granada. The following ring road round Granada(Circunvalacion/Autovia de Granada) leave at the exit no. 123 (Granada - Almanjayar - Maracena). Direction Granada at about 1.500 meters you see on the left hand side the Hospital Traumatologia. At the next traffic light crossing, which is a 100 meters from the hospital, you will see the sign to the Parking Trauma. Turn left hand side and follow the sign. The entrance to Parking Trauma may be a 300 meters from the crossing in a circle. Leave your car there, cost

• 15 Euros per day,

• 18 Euros for the weekend (from Friday at 3 pm until Sunday at midnight) or

• 25 Euros for the whole week.

Get a taxi to Plaza Nueva, it may cost 6 Euros. From Plaza Nueva (see map) get up the Street Calle Carcel Alta, it is right hand side of the Restaurant Torres Bermejas. Turn left around the Church San Gregorio and walk up the Cuesta de San Gregorio. At about a 300 meters the Cuesta San Gregorio makes a sharp turn left and at another 30 meters you eventually get to the Placeta de la Cruz Verde.

Parking Triunfo:

If you want to use your car in Granada or if you stay just a few days and want a parking in the centre, we recommend the Parking Triunfo, which may be a 10 minutes walk to the Casa del Aljarife. It costs 15 Euros for 24 hours, no discounts. If you do not want to walk to the Casa del Aljarife you may get a taxi to Plaza Nueva from Parking Triunfo. It may cost 3 or 4 Euros.

Leave the highway to Granada at the exit (salida) 241 A. The following ring road leave at the exit no. 128 (Centro Mendez Nuñez). Go straight ahead and follow the signs to the centre. At about 1.000 m you will see on the right hand side the Hotel Granada Center. Continue a 250 meters more and you will get to a traffic light. There you will see a sign to the centre. Do not enter the tunnel. Take the right lane direction centre. At the traffic light turn right hand side into the Avenida de la Constitucion. At about 80 m you will see right hand side the entrance to the Parking Triunfo (see map). Leave you car there, enter the Gran Via until the Bank La Caixa at Gran Via no 16. Left hand side of the Caixa walk up the Street Carcel Baja, continue the Calderería Nueva and then the Cuesta de San Gregorio. At about a 300 meters the Cuesta San Gregorio makes a sharp turn left and at another 30 meters you eventually get to the Placeta de la Cruz Verde.

Parking Severo Ochoa:

In the centre od Granada we recommend the Parking Severo Ochoa, which may be a 10 minutes walk to the Casa del Aljarife. It costs 15 Euros per day or 25 Euros for the week. Leave the highway to Granada at the exit (salida) 241 A. The following ring road leave at the exit no. 128 (Centro Mendez Nuñez). Go straight ahead and follow the signs to the centre. At about 1.000 m you will see on the right hand side the Hotel Granada Center. Continue a 200 meters more and you will get to a traffic light. There you will see a sign to the Parking Severo Ochoa. Directly before you get to that traffic light turn right hand side and follow the sign to the Parking. Leave you car there and enter the street Rector Lopez Argueta right hand side. At the end of that street you will stand in front of the Church Perpetuo Socorro. Turn left and inmediately right hand side into the street San Jeronimo. At the end of San Jeronimo you will see the Cathedral. Turn left hand side into the street Carcel Baja, cross the Gran Via and continue the Carcel Baja until the street Caldereria Nueva to the church San Gregorio. Left hand side of the church you walk up the steps of the Cuesta San Gregorio. At about a 300 meters the Cuesta San Gregorio makes a sharp turn left and at another 30 meters you eventually get to the Placeta de la Cruz Verde.

Parking San Agustin:

The closest Parking to the Casa del Aljarife is the Parking San Agustin at Gran Via (31,70 Euros a day, no discount) which is just a four or five minutes walk from our Pension (see map).

Leave the highway to Granada at the exit (salida) 241 A. The following ring road leave at the exit no. 128 (Centro Mendez Nuñez). Follow the signs to the centre. At about 1.000 m you will see on the right hand side the Hotel Granada Center. Continue a 200 meters more and you will get to a traffic light. Behind the Hotel Granada Center you will already see some signs on the right hand side with: Atencion Acceso c/San Juan De Dios. Just follow them and turn right hand side into the street Rector Lopez Argueta before arriving the traffic light.
Now you get directly in front of the Church Perpetuo Socorro. Turn left and after a 10 meters right hand side into the street San Jeronimo until the end. Now you are at the Cathedral.
Turn left and after a 100 meters turn left again. Now you are in front of the Parking San Agustin.
Leave your car there, enter the Gran Via right hand side until the Bank La Caixa at Gran Via no 16. Left hand side of the Caixa walk up the Street Carcel Baja, continue the Caldereria Nueva and then the Cuesta de San Gregorio. At the end of the Cuesta de San Gregorio you eventually get to the Placeta de la Cruz Verde.

Alhambra tickets

The Alhambra is the most visited monument in Europe. So, I seriously recommend to order tickets in advance. There are several ways to get tickets for the Alhambra:

You may buy them directly at every Banco Bilbao Vizcaya (BBVA) when you are in Spain. You may buy the tickets in advance by phone: +34-91-3465936 from your home. You may buy the tickets better today than tomorrow on the internet: www.alhambratickets.com City pass If you stay for three or more nights in Granada, I would recommend to buy a tourist bonus. This city pass includes all important monuments of Granada, also the Alhambra, a trip with the Sight Seeing bus and 9 bus rides for the city busses. This ticket costs 25 Euros per person, it is valid for 7 days and you may buy it directly in the Alhambra, at the Royal Chapel or in advance in the Internet.
